At TIS Kolkata, we are dedicated to providing students with a holistic and integrated learning experience. Our approach involves planning activities that are both comprehensive and meaningful, allowing students to connect their prior knowledge and experiences to support new learning. Scholastic and co-scholastic activities are seamlessly integrated to ensure the Fivefold Development of students, covering physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects in a stimulating learning environment.
Our teaching methodologies incorporate modern technological aids and interactive games/exercises to make learning both enjoyable and experiential for students. Emphasis is placed on enhancing Language Skills – Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (LSRW) through an English Programme rooted in the Montessori approach. Early exposure to phonic sounds lays a robust foundation for language skills, fostering a love for reading, speaking, and writing.
For numerical concepts, we follow the CPA (Concrete – Pictorial – Abstract) method, allowing students to understand, plan, answer, and check their work using the UPAC (Understand, Plan, Answer, and Check) process. This approach cultivates good habits for approaching mathematical problems of varying difficulty levels, fostering problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and deductive skills.
In Environmental Studies (EVS), hands-on activities and projects are incorporated to promote investigation, exploration, and discovery, aligning with children's interests and understanding levels. The integration of art, music, drama, etc., with routine concepts enhances the meaningfulness of learning and caters to the individual needs of students, recognizing diverse intelligences and learning styles.
Beyond academic and extracurricular skills, we place significant emphasis on instilling moral and environmental values in students from the Nursery level. Our goal is to nurture responsible citizens who not only respect our national heritage and culture but also actively contribute to the preservation and conservation of nature.
